Gaylord K. Lewis, who is well known in Washington, died in the Washington hospital, Tuesday morning, December 18, following an illness of influenza and complications. For twenty-seven years he had been a member of the writing force of the Washington Reporter and later the Observer. Mr. Lewis was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David H. Lewis, deceased, and was born at Lone Pine, February 25, 1879. When he was ten years of age the family removed to Washington, where he had since resided. After graduation from the West Washington high school he attended Waynesburg College for two years and spent one year at W & J college and finished his course at Bethany college with the class of 1901. Soon after graduating he took up newspaper work. On September 16, 1903 Mr. Lewis was united in marriage with Miss Eliza F. McGlumphy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. McGlumphy of Ninevah, now residing in Claysville. For many years Mr. Lewis had been a member of the Central Presbyterian church of Washington and was actively interested in Sunday School and church work. He was also a member of the Masonic order and its different organizatins; also of the Elks lodge and of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Beside his wife he is survived by one brother, George Lewis of Pittsburgh.
