Tana was the winner of the Miss Rosamond (California) beauty pageant. During her teen years, she was also a member of Edwards Assembly, a chapter of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a Masonic youth group. At the state level in that organization, she served as Grand Representative to Pennsylvania in 1977.

Tana was brutally murdered in her apartment. The crime was solved 24 years later after being featured on the A&E Network's "Cold Case Files." When interviewed for the show, her parents advised anyone in similar circumstances to, "Never give up hope!"
