THE PASSING OF EBENEZER CRAIG HAD SPENT HIS LIFE TIME OF ALMOST EIGHT-SEVEN YEARS IN McLEAN COUNTY

Mention was made last week of the death of Ebenezer Craig, who passed away Thurs. evening, Oct. 28, at 5:10 o'clock, after several months of illnes.. His long life in this community and the kin of life he lived, merited for Uncle Eb Craig a high regard for all who knew him and a deep regret that "his length of days" had to come to a close.
A great concourse of relatives and friends gathered at the Christian church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock for the last sad rites. The services were conducted by Rev. Leland Brown, of Knoxville, Ill., an old friend of the family and the father of Rev. Ransom D. Brown, a son-in-law of the deceased. Rev. S. H. Kuntz of the local church assisted. Mrs. Don Jones and Mrs. Glenn Dooley sang, with Mrs. Effie Huddlestone at the piano.

The following obituary of the life of Mr. Craig was read by Rev. Kuntz:
EBENEZER CRAIG, son of Evenezer and Mary Ann Rutledge Craig, was born on the old Blue farm near Downs, Ill., November 4th, 1839, died at his home in this city October 28, 1926. His death came within one week of his 87th birthday.
Mr. Craig was the youngest child of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded him to the great beyond. He was left an orphan at the early age of 4 1/2 years and underwent many trials and hardships.
He attended school in a log house and had all those trying experiences that were common to the pioneer. For nine summers he roke prairie with the old ox team.
On August 30, 1862, Mr. Craig was married to Miss Elizabeth Wiliams of this county who assed away Dec. 28, 1868. (Should be Dec. 16). On November 4, 1874, he was married to Miss Susan Howard, of Hudson, Ill. To this union four children were born: Mary, wife of M. H. Dooley, of LeRoy; Emma, wife of Rev. R. D. Brown, of Lovington, Ill.; Belle, wife of Orval Hinton, of Fisher, Ill., and Harry, of Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Craig was engaged in farming until old age and its infirmities incapacitated him for hard labor. He resided in this community all his life, having lived in LeRoy fifty years, forty-seven years having been spent in their present home.
In politics he was a staunch Democrat. In early manhood he became affiliated with the Presbyterian church and held to that faith thurout the years.
In these last days of his journey thru life he has suffered much, but loving hands and watchful eye of the part of his faithful companion and devoted children aided by the skilled physician did all that the human hand and heart could do to sooth his pain until the Death Angel wafted his spirit across the great Divide.
Surviving Mr. Craig are hi wife and children, nine grandchildren, Norma, Leland, and Wilmah Brown; Leliah Craig Frink; George, Frances, Dorothy, Alden and Jean Craig. One grandchild preceded him in death. Also three great grandchildren, Richard, Robert and Jacqueline, children of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Frink, of Chicago.
In the death of Mr. Craig, his wife loses a kind and living companion, the children a true and faithful father and the community an upright and honest citizen. He was highly respected and much beloved by all who knew him.
The pallbearers were: H. B. Kline, Lincoln Bailey, George E. Dooley, L. W. Wartena, George List and Joseph Lawson. The interment was made at Oak Grove Cemetery.
