Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bailey Memorial Cemetery, Tolono. There is no visitation.

Mr. Payne was born Nov. 28, 1930, at Glasgow, Ky., a son to Herbert and Effie Ogden Payne. He married Dorothy Warfel on Nov. 27, 1953. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1987.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Ernie) Jacobson of Pesotum; three grandchildren, Heidi (Jeremy) Bell of St. Joseph, Holli (Frank) Alexander of St. Joseph and Joshua Jacobson of Normal; four great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Asher Bell and Matthew and Ava Alexander; and a sister, Kathleen Rook of Champaign.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Mr. Payne retired from Illinois Bell in maintenance and also worked part time as a ticket taker at the Assembly Hall, Champaign.
He was a member of the Champaign Moose and First Methodist Church, Champaign.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and drinking coffee with friends.
Memorials may be made to the Champaign County Nursing Home or American Lung Cancer.
