Pearl was the third of seven children born to Hiram Bernet and Mary 'Lillian' (Bowlin) Karnes. She married Charles Edward Lefler and they had three children: JoAnn, Charlene and George Edward.

ZEIGLER -- Pearl I. Lefler, 96, passed away at 10:40 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011, in Herrin Hospital.
Pearl was born Sept. 7, 1914 in Plumfield to Hiram Burnett and Mary Lillian (Bowlin) Karnes.
She married Charles Edward Lefler on April 11, 1936, in Plumfield. He preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1962.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Grant of S.E. Albany, Ore. and Charlene Leposky of Royalton; a son, George Edward Lefler and Carolyn Bagwell; her brother, Joey Bogdajewicz of Royalton; eight grandchildren, Tom
(Janet) Leposky of Royalton, Jeff (Melinda) Leposky of Royalton, Cheryl (Jason Janes) Ruzich of Herrin, Scott (Shari) Lefler of Zeigler, Amy (Jarod) Calcaterra of Benton, Kendra (Mark) Bell of Albany, Ore., Paul (Valeeta) Grant of Wieser, Idaho, and Charles Grant of Washington; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Audrey Flowers of Zeigler and Bertha Barwick of Elkville.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two great-granddaughters, Ashley and Jeseca Ruzich of Herrin; two sons-in-law, Lindell Grant and Tom Leposky and three brothers; William, Fred and Cecil Karnes.

Mrs. Lefler was of Protestant faith. She retired as a seamstress at Allen Industries and Smoller Brothers in Herrin. She had also worked at Tuck Tape in Carbondale and for Gayer's dress factory in Zeigler.
Services for Mrs. Lefler will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, in Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler, with Brother Denny Bush officiating.
Burial will be in Zeigler Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
