"Mr. Hart was born in Logan county, Kentucky, August 9, 1865, and received his education in schools at Nashville, Lebanon and Dresden. At the last named place he learned telegraphy at the age of thirteen and shortly afterward, or in 1879, he entered the employ of the Nashville, Chatanooga & St. Louis Railway Company, with which company he has now been in service nearly thirty-five years. As an operator he worked at various offices during the earlier years, but since 1892 he has been station agent at Waverly, Tennessee. Here during a residence of twenty years he has held a secure place in the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens and in 1909 was chosen as executive head of Waverly, in which office he is yet serving. During his administration as mayor Church street has been tiled and many concrete walks have been laid, giving Waverly improvements in these directions far in excess of its neighboring towns, and in numerous ways he has lent influence and labor to make Waverly a wide-awake and progressing town, The Lucas and Henry addition have been added to the corporation and $4,000 of the bonded debt has been retired. He is a Democrat in political views, and affiliates fraternally with Walter Scott Lodge No. 110, Knights of Pythias, being one of the thirteen charter members. He and his wife and daughter are members of the Methodist Episcopal church, South.
On May 15, 1888, Mr. Hart was joined in marriage to Miss Cecile Scott, daughter of S. P. Scott of Dresden, Tennessee. Their one daughter, Cecil, is now the wife of Rev. Clovis C. [sic] Chappell, of the Central Texas Conference of the Methodist Epioscopal denomination,"
