Edna McClelland Floyd was born January 22, 1905 in Ivanhoe, Bulloch County, Georgia. One of ten children, she was the daughter of William Madison McClelland and Manie Veranda Glisson McClelland and their ninth born child. Growing up she was a member of Old Fellowship Baptist Church in Bulloch County. After a brief marriage to a man named Wille, she married James Corbin Floyd. Edna and Corbin had no children of their own, but Corbin and his first wife had three children. Edna and Corbin moved to Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, living two doors down from her sister Grace McClelland Clark. Edna was known for baking the world's best pound cakes. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Edna was like a foster mom to a neighborhood girl, Angel, and her family. Edna died on February 18, 1976 at age 71 and was buried next to her husband in Savannah's Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery. Her niece, Lois Bell Myatt, handled all her funeral arrangements. Her ancestry was Scots, Scots-Irish, English, German, and--through the Martin and Strickland surnames--Native American (Lumbee).

Thanks so much to her sister Nevada McClelland Bell for much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions. I hope someone can tell me the exact location of her grave. If a closer relative than I would like to manage this burial site, please let me know.
