He was born July 21, 1907, in Weldon, Iowa, to Austin C. Tallman and Eva L. Litzey. He moved with his parents from Iowa at age 3 to Gallatin Gateway, and later moved to Bozeman, where he has lived since. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, with time spent in Honolulu and the Philippines.
He married Grace Stucky on July 8, 1938, in Bozeman. A miller by trade, he worked at Montana Flour Mills for 27 years. Prior to his retirement in 1971 he worked for Montana State University in custodial services.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. The procession will leave Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel at approximately 1:45 p.m.
