Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. For twelve seasons (1944 to 1955), he played at the defensive end, end, guard and linebacker positions in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears. Born Edward Alexander Sprinkle, he attended high school in Tuscola, Texas and played collegiate football at Hardin-Simmons followed by the United States Naval Academy. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. Signed as a non drafted player, he totaled 132 regular season games and earned Pro-Bowl honors four-times (1950 to 1952 and 1954). During the course of his career, Sprinkle nicknamed "The Claw" was known for his tough, physical playing style. He experienced a world championship with the 1946 NFL Champion Chicago Bears' squad. After retiring from football, he was involved in several business endeavors and returned to the gridiron one last time to serve as a coach on the New York Titans' staff in 1962. In 1984, he was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame. He was posthumously inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
