DR. JOSEPHINE BELL ACCIDENTALLY KILLED

Well Known Woman Receives Injury While Cleaning Rifle

Friday, Oct. 9. -- As a great shock to her many friends in this city comes the news of the death of Dr. Josephine Bell, which occurred at Bartlett springs yesterday as the result of an accident.

While cleaning a small rifle for her 8 year old son Dick, on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Bell accidentally discharged the weapon, which she had supposed to be unloaded. The charge entered her stomach, injuring her so seriously that although medical aid was summoned, nothing could be done by the physicians and her death occurred a little less than 24 hours later.

Mrs. Bell who practiced medicine in this city until some 3 months ago, had decided to return from Bartlett springs to San Francisco today and would have made her home for a time with her brother William Grant, of Cushing, Grant & Cushing. Her funeral will take place from her brother's home tomorrow. The little boy, whose father died some years ago will remain for the present with his uncle.
