SAMUEL MADDOX LANE, 67, died Sunday evening at the Hamilton Hotel. He was born and reared in Hagerstown, the son of William Preston and Virginia Cartwright Lane, Sr.

He was a retired contract officer for the US Air Force stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida. He had resided in Hagerstown for the past three years.

He was a second lieutenant in World War I and was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Washington, DC.

He is survived by a brother, William Preston Lane, Jr., of Hagerstown; sister, Mrs. James A. Gambrill III, Frederick; step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Evelyn Coleman, Washington, DC., and one step-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Episcopal Church; burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery; arrangements were by the Rouzer Funeral Home.
