U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Williams College Massachusetts, in 1805, moved to Herkimer, New York and was elected Herkimer County clerk, (1812, 15). During the War of 1812, he served as a judge advocate and a member of the New York State Assembly, (1814-15, 18). In 1819, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth Congress, serving until 1821. After leaving Congress, he was district attorney of Herkimer County, (1828-33), again a member of the New York State assembly in 1837 and a justice of the St. Lawrence County Court, (1823-24).
