His father was James H Dolan and his mother was Mary E. Fahey Dolan.
He was born in Osceola Mills, PA.
He worked as a railroad brakeman. I gather he was a legendary tough guy in Pittsburgh in his time. and lots of stories told of his exploits although I don't know him . He does look like a tough guy in his picture, but there is sadness in his eyes too. .
Tuberculous took the weak and the strong back then. There was no hope and no treatment. They called it "consumption", since it slowly consumed you .
I think despite his toughness life was very hard and sad for him. His frail brother James died of TB too, in 1921 when only 33 years old. Edward and James are in the same grave.
Edward was in the Army 1918-1919. He may have contracted TB in 1925 in Homewood PA according to his much later Death Certificate, but I suspect it was much earlier. In 1928 he was in a TB hospital in Tennessee when he was 38. He is listed then as divorced and no religion. There is a record he married a Margaret M. Leslie of Pittsburgh in 1915 other than he was divorced by 1928. but I can't find any more information.
He died at the VA Hospital back home near Pittsburgh in Aspinwall PA. from advanced tuberculosis. He was only 45.
His obituary "DOLAN - On Tuesday, April 9th at 5:45 PM, Edward J. beloved son of Mary E. Dolan (nee Fahey)and the late James H. Dolan. Funeral from the L. B.
