He was posthumously brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers to date from July 19, 1964 for "gallant and distinguished services at the battles of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wauhatchie, Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge, Ringgold, Mill Creek Gap, Resaca and Peach Tree Creek".
