Mrs. A. A. Basford, who came to California on her father's ship in 1850, died yesterday in this city. She was one of the founders of the First Congregational church of this city and was prominent in charitable work, having been one of the first women workers for the children's hospital. She was the widow of the late J. K. Basford, who was also a pioneer, and sister of the late William L. Merry, former minister to Costa Rica, and Thomas H. Merry, former assistant city attorney. She leaves one son, H. R. Basford, of this city. The funeral will be held from N. Gray & Co's chapel, Geary and Divisadero streets, tomorrow at 1:30 o'clock.
