Charles was the son of Charles Ward and Magdalene Weldon. He was married for 57 years to his wife, Ruthy Morgan, and they two children, Frances and Paul "Tony". Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran and an estimator for Steel Fabricators. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Okolona, the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. Charles died at the age of 77.
