Motion Picture Director, Actor. He will perhaps be best remembered for directing Clint Eastwood in the pictures "Where Eagles Dare" (1968) and "Kelly's Heroes" (1970). He studied at the Actor's Studio in his native New York, prior to moving to California where he began his career as a bit actor. He would spend the next decade in minor roles for the pictures "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" (1957), "King Creole" (1958) and "Last Train from Gun Hill" (1959), in addition to scores of TV credits. His marked his directing debut with the film "Wild Seed" (1965). Additional films include directing Elizabeth Taylor in "Night Watch" (1973) and Frank Sinatra in "First Deadly Sin" (1980). He died from a heart attack.
