Olive R. Skarda, age 91, of 125 Tower Ave., Whitelaw, village of Kellnersville, died on Thursday afternoon, April 28, 2011, at Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.
Olive was born on Feb. 28, 1920, in the town of Kossuth, daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Cherney) Krejcarek. She attended the Palm Grove School at Reifs Mills. On Oct. 10, 1939, Olive married Leonard Skarda at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1988. The couple farmed at Kellnersville and operated a school bus for the St. Joseph Grade School. Over the years, Olive was very active at St. Joseph Parish and played the organ for many years. She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Rosary Society.
Survivors include her eight children and their spouses: Leonard "Butch" Skarda, Manitowoc, Sr. Clara Rose Sartain, Oswego, Ill., Betty Ann (Lester) Zipperer, Kellnersville, Wayne (Joy) Skarda, Appleton, Shirley Ann (Kent) Norris, Elwood, Ill., Joe (Sara) Skarda, New Holstein, Mike (Rodell) Skarda, Kellnersville, Nancy Ann (Terry) Walt, Reedsville; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Helen Kath, Manitowoc, Betty Jane Pfefferkorn, Milwaukee, Joyce Krejcarek, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Clara Krejcarek; her husband: Leonard Skarda; one son-in-law: Max Sartain; one brother and sister-in-law: Joe (Esther) Krejcarek; six brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Ray Kath, Earl Pfefferkorn, George (Ruby) Skarda, Frank (Florence) Skarda, Edward (Alice) Skarda, Charles Skarda.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. The Rev. Ronald Colombo will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service held on Monday at 5 p.m., and the St. Joseph Rosary Society will pray the rosary at 7 p.m.
