George B. DeCroix, 76, of Springfield, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center.
George was born June 13, 1938, in Springfield, the son of James Phillip and Garnet Pennington DeCroix. He married Joann Renken on Oct. 4, 1975, in Pleasant Plains.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving from 1957-1963. He was a security guard for the Department of Corrections in Springfield and Lincoln; he retired in 2000 after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard "Dick" DeCroix and Jim DeCroix Jr.; and one sister, Lois Hollis.
He is survived by his wife, Joann DeCroix of Springfield; one son; Michael (Jamie) DeCroix of Springfield; three daughters: Lisa (Mark) Shepherd of Springfield, Georgia Moore of Auburn, and Christine (Tim Blandford) Tomasko of Auburn; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home. There will be an additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains with Pastor Donald Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow at Peter Cartwright Cemetery in Pleasant Plains.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Zion Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains or Lutheran High School in Springfield.
