Major League Baseball Player. The 6-foot-3 shortstop was originally signed by the Boston Red Sox in 1941, but his career was interrupted by military service in 1943-45. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds on November 1, 1946 after he hit .304 for Roanoke of the Piedmont League. He made his big-league debut with the Reds in 1947 and became their regular shortstop in 1948. He hit .228 during his rookie year but did have 30 doubles. The right-handed hitter batted .254, .251 and .241 the next three seasons. He was then was traded along with Dick Sisler to the St. Louis Cardinals on May 13, 1952 for Wally Westlake and Eddie Kazak. He played just 30 games for the Redbirds and was released early in the 1953 season. (bio by: Ron Coons)
