Barbara T. Garcia, 54 passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at her home in Cimarron, New Mexico after a 6 month battle with leukemia. She was born on November 20, 1959 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Epifanio and Maddalena Sandoval, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Marshall Garcia, Sr., as well as her sons, Marshall Garcia, Jr. And Dominic Garcia and his wife, Ashlee. Barbara married Marshall in Santa Fe on August 16, 1980. She was employed by the Cimarron School system for the past 20 years where the students affectionately called her "Miss Barbara". The Cimarron track team shaved their heads and wore orange socks to honor her fighting spirit at the state meet. She is, also, survived by her in-laws, John and Jane Garcia; her brothers Michael and wife, Susan Sandoval; Filemon Sandoval; Ralph and wife, Grace Sandoval, Reyes and wife, Caroline Sandoval; her sisters Mary Ann and husband, Joe Mendez; Susie and husband, Tony Darras; and Julia and husband, Lee Quintana. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary was held Monday, August 18 recited by Pat Zamora, and the Funeral Mass followed with Father Emmanual Izuka as the celebrant at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cimarron. Interment was held in Santa Fe on Tuesday, August 19 at the Rosario Cemetery, 499 N. Guadalupe Street.
