Donald was the son of Albert Lawrence Acton and Ola May Beach.

He was married to M.E. Thomson and they had 2 children.

As an alumnus of the Youth Group of St. James United Church in Ottawa, Don devoted a large part of his life to the service of others. He was an active member of St. James United Church in Ottawa, Birchmount United Church in Agincourt, Lemonville United Church and Zion United Church in Carnarvon. He was also a dedicated member of the Lions Clubs in Minden and Stouffville and a charter member of the Ballantrae Lions Club. As a cancer survivor of 1959, and an active community member everywhere he lived, he has left a legacy of perseverance in the face of adversity and service to others in each community in which he lived in the 84 years God gave him. A passionate builder, fixer and gardener, Don touched the lives of many, including the campers and staff at Camp Big Canoe and Camp Kirk. Memories abound from the cottage on Boshkung Lake he built and fostered as a gathering place for family and friends.
