John was the third of six children born to James Abner and Octa Elizabeth (Bruce) Guy. He married Opal Suzanne Miller in 1944 and they were the parents of seven children: James Thomas Sr., Kenneth Eugene, Larry Michael, David Lynn, Albert Lee, Teresa Ann and Cynthia Renee.

He was born in Iredell County on October 24, 1924, the son of the late James Abner Guy and Octa Bruce Guy. He was a retired machinist with Ronson Hydraulic in Charlotte, NC and was a member of the North Dale Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons: Larry Michael Guy, Albert Lee Guy and Kenneth Eugene Guy; one brother: James Woodrow Guy; and one sister: Mary Sue Montgomery. He is survived by his wife: Opal Miller Guy of the home; two sons: James Thomas Guy of Davidson, NC and David Lynn Guy of Mooresville, NC; two daughters: Teresa Ann Rues of Orlando, Fla. and Cynthia Renee Guy of Buthune, SC; one brother: Lawrence Guy of Stoney Point, NC; two sisters: Aliene Souls of Thomasville, NC and Margaret Adams of Asheboro, NC; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, October 15, 2000, at 4 PM at Chapman Funeral Home in Stoney Point, NC. Rev. Frank Binson and Rev. Roger Newton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt.
