ARMY VETERAN- PRIVATE

A military funeral was held at the home of Joseph Simchik on 35 Covert Street Kingston PA. He was a member of the american legion # 395 Kingston.

The procession went from his home to St Mary polish Chruch in Wilkes-Barre to St Hedwig cemtery, where he was given full military honors by the Amercian Legion Post 395 Kingston and Post 132 Wilkes-Barre.

Joseph J. Simchick (Symchik )38 years old died in Wilkes-Barre PA, husband of Amelia Kulsick Symchik. He lived on 35 Covert St, Kingston PA. He fell off a coal car and fractured his skull. Employed by Dorrance Colliery Wilkes-Barre PA.

1919 Draft card registration, he was 25 years old, Single and lived on 19 Curtis, Kingston PA. He worked as a laborer D.L&W Coal compnay. His immigration status was declared Intention.
he was born in what looks to be on his draft reg card, Welka Pruska Sulvaky Russia

Application for a headstone 13 May 1933: PVT Joseph Symchik, US Army, Served with CO M. 166th Regt US Inf, 42 Div, He was discharged at Camp Dix NJ, Occupation, Mason. He was 5'5 1/4 tall, red hair, grey eyes.

Joseph Szimchik, signed by him on his Cetificate of Naturalization # 1210110, by the US District court of New Jersey. Refers to a special term of the district held at Camp Dix NJ on that date. States subject was not a citizen of Great Britain and that he had previously applied to be a citizen of the United State.

According to his enlistment record, he served with the America Expeditionary Forces from 12 Jan 1918 til 2 Apr 1919 and participated in the following battles: Baccarat sec may 3-18. German Off 15 Jul- 18th, Champagne Sec 2nd battle Marne Jul 27-Aug 3. St Mihielk Sept 12-28th, Argonne Forest Oct 11 1918.
