Robert was the son of Weeks Bennet and Audrey (Bonner) Parker. He married Gladys Lucille Godfrey in 1943 and they were the parents of six children: Robert Eugene 'Gene', Kenneth Byrd, Barbara Diane, Judith Elaine, Marie Anne and Rebecca Lynn.

Robert Lee “Bob” Parker, 87, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday evening, July 21, 2010 at the Elizabeth House. A native of Rocky Mount, he was a son of the late Weeks and Audrey Bonner Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Weeks Bennett Parker II, sister, Viola Parker, wife, Gladys Lucille Godfrey and daughter, Rebecca Lynn Parker.

He had resided in the Hendersonville and Brevard areas since 1951 and was a member of Moore’s Grove United Methodist Church, Oasis Shriners, Dunn’s Rock Masonic Lodge of Brevard, VFW Post 4309 and American Legion Post 77 in Hendersonville. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, worked at Ecusta Paper in Pisgah Forest and retired from Asheville-Buncombe Tech, where he was an instructor in the Heating and Air Department for 21 years.

He is survived by two sons, Gene Parker and wife, Melba of Mills River and Ken Parker and wife, Carman of Tampa Fla.; four daughters, Diane Childress and husband, Al Reece of Brevard, Judy Giles of Little River, Marie Trotter and husband, J.B. of Thomasville, NC, and Kathy Parker of Brevard; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Parker of Aurora.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Moore’s Grove United Methodist Church. The Reverend R. Glenn Camp will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Hiddenite.
