Helene Fern (Kuhl) Guilford
Helene was called home by her Creator in Windsor, CA in the company of her son and her caregiver at the age of 94. Helene, known by friends and family as Fern, was born and raised near Loup City, NE and subsequently resided in Oregon and California at various times. She was the beloved wife of the late Elon R. Guilford. She was the loving mother of Myron E. (Margaret) Guilford; cherished grandmother of Elon Dale, Anne Helene and James Roger Guilford who survive her. She is also survived by her loving sister, Lucille Janulewicz and sister-in-law Elsie Guilford as well as adoring cousins, nieces and nephews and their extended families. She was preceded in death by sisters Viola Jensen and Lily Thornton. Helene was employed for many years in the banking business and prior to that in the telephone business. In the prime of her life, she enjoyed camping, gardening, cooking and sewing. Observing wildlife at her riverfront home on the Deschutes River gave her special pleasure. Her grandchildren and pets brought much joy to her life. Model A Ford club events, Neighbors' Club activities and rural road district administration were interests that she shared with her husband. Active in the Presbyterian Church in younger days, she served as a deacon. In later years, she adopted the Episcopal Church as her church home, faithfully attending worship services and participating in Guild of the Incarnation activities. Her positive outlook and friendly disposition earned her the nickname, "Aunt Fun" from appreciative nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held at Church of the Incarnation, 550 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, CA, on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Private inurnment will take place in Bend, OR at a later date.
