Howell was the oldest of four children born to George E. and Margaret Slena (Terrell) Mason. He married Mildred E. Grebe and they were the parents of seven children: Elmer Donald, Earl E., Dorothy Elaine, Alice Marie, Allen W., Lowell B., and Lawrence V.

Howell M. Mason

Funeral for Howell McKinley Mason, 87, of Gresham, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carroll Funeral Home with interment in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Mr. Mason died Tuesday in a Gresham hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1897, in St. Louis, Mo. He moved to Texas in 1919 and from there to Omak, Wash., finally settling in Gresham in 1939. He married Mildred Elimira Grebe in 1922 in Omak. She died in 1956.
He was a retired lumber grader for Lynwood Lumber Co., Clackamas. He was skilled in carpentry and built many homes. He was a member of Barton Community Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Lawrence of Stanwood, Wash., Lowell of Gresham, Elmer D. of Oroville, Calif., Earl of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Allen Mason of Santa Cruz, Calif.; three daughters, Audrey Lassiter, Camas, Wash., Alice Campbell, Los Angeles, and Marge Flanders, Newport; a sister, Hazel Ransam, Seattle; 31 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
