William Edward DeWert, 76 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Sunday, November 21, 1937 in Ohio the son of the late William E. DeWert and the late Joyce (Wiley) DeWert-Lennington.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, being discharged in 1966 after attaining the rank of Sergeant.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA); American Legion Post #82 in Fort Wayne; V.F.W. Posts in Churubusco, Waynedale, and Monroeville; US Marine Corps League; New Haven Navy Club; Allen County SPCA; DeKalb Humane Society; and Allen County Humane Society.

Bill was a self-employed real estate broker and antique dealer.

Surviving are his son, William L. DeWert of Huntertown; daughters, Faith Ann (Matthew) Webb of Fort Wayne; Hope Angela Sheets of Auburn; sister, Annette Witte of Fort Wayne; and four grandchildren, Jessica DeWert; Grant Webb; Jack Webb; and Brook Webb.

Preceding William in death were two brothers, Richard David DeWert & Arthur DeWert and a sister, Francis Lare.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by American Legion Post #420 of Monroeville.

Friends will be received from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, September 6 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville.

Preferred memorials are to Allen County SPCA.
