The VA will pay for the manufacture and shipment of the headstone, and volunteers will place it on the grave—there is no cost to the applicant or the family. Thank you.

Son of Alfred & Julia Frances (FORSYTH) IVERSON, Sr. Married 19 JUL 1865 in Russell County, Alabama, to Eliza MALONE. Heads a household on the 1880 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia, aged 43 years, born in DC (father born in Georgia, mother in Maryland), employed as a fire insurance agent; wife Eliza (40, born in Georgia, father in Virginia, mother in Georgia) and three daughters: May (14), Julia (9), and Leolli (8), all born in Georgia; also present - John's mother-in-law, Albinia [?] MALONE (71, born in Georgia, parents born in Virginia), and a servant, Nelly BRYAN (Black, 50, born in South Carolina, both parents born South Carolina).

"DEATH OF COLONEL IVERSON: A Good Man and a Brave and Gallant Soldier Passes Over the River. // Colonel John Forsyth IVERSON died at his residence on Second avenue last night at 10 o'clock after a short illness, in the 51st year of his age, having been born in Georgetown, D. C., March 2, 1887. // He was a resident of this city since early childhood and was a son of Hon. Alfred IVERSON, who was for many years a United States senator for the state of Georgia. His mother was a daughter of General FORSYTH, a gallant soldier and diplomat. The general represented the United States in the court of Spain in the early part of this century. // Colonel IVERSON leaves a wife and three daughters, to whom his death comes with crushing effect, and to whom the warmed sympathy of the entire community goes out this morning. // Colonel IVERSON was a member of the First Presbyterian church. It can be truly said of him that he was the kindest and best of husbands, a generous and loving father, a thoughtful friend and a good citizen. A man possessing a positive temperament, he had fixed convictions and was unswerving in their support; but always fair and manly in advocating them. He was a warm and true friend and a pleasant and agreeable gentleman in every sense of the word. // Colonel IVERSON was one of the most gallant soldiers of the confederacy. He went into the army early in the conflict as captain of the Georgia Grays, one of the companies that formed the Fifth Georgia Regiment. He was promoted colonel of that regiment and commanded it and filled other offices of responsibility until the war closed. // He has been engaged in the insurance business since 1865, and at the time of his death was the agent for several fire and life insurance companies in this city. // The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the family residence, corner Second avenue and Fourteenth street."
