Billy "Gene" Noland

January 9, 1923 - August 28, 2014

Billy Gene Noland passed from this life on August 28, 2014 at the age of 91. Born in Henrietta, OK to Goode and Thelma Noland, Gene grew up in Amarillo, TX and attended Texas A&M University. In 1941 Gene joined the US Army Air Force and was a B-24 pilot. He later served in the US Air Force Reserves attaining the rank of Major. In 1944, he married the love of his life, Lou Jean Doak.

"Gene & Jean" moved to Eugene, OR in 1947 where Gene received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Oregon. In 1950 they moved to Salem and Gene began his teaching career with the Salem School District. He taught at Parrish Junior High, Leslie Junior High and finally South Salem High until he retired, after 34 years, in 1984. Gene was a gifted artist and worked in various media well into his retirement years.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jean and their children Lynda Noland of Lake Oswego, OR and Mark Noland of Sandy, UT; his brother Robert Noland of Amarillo, TX as well as three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private memorial will be held upon internment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
