Dan's family moved to Brighton in 1954. After graduating from Fort Lupton High School and serving in the Army, Dan went to work as a union pipe fitter welder at Conoco Refinery in Commerce City, where he was a member of the Safety Team. He retired as a Steam Tracing Specialist after 30 years of service. On October 3, 1978, he survived a “Big Blast” explosion which claimed the lives of three of his coworkers. Dan enjoyed watching football and was a diehard Oakland Raider fan. He loved trips to Blackhawk, fishing, coaching baseball and watching his grandson play sports. Dan was a very caring, generous, hardworking, loyal man who loved to share his great sense of humor with friends and family. Survivors included: son Danny (Erika) Martinez, Northglenn; daughter Valerie (Lalo) Rodriguez, Brighton; grandchildren Matthew and Alyana; brothers Alberto (Joann) Martinez, Henderson, CO, Modesto Martinez, Ft. Lupton, Roberto Martinez, Brighton; sisters Yolanda (Angel) DeLeon, Fort Lupton, and Evelyn Martinez, Commerce City. Preceding were brothers Nestor and Ferdinando Martinez. Rosary held September 18th at St William Catholic Church in Ft. Lupton. Mass of Christian Burial held September 19th at St. William Church.
