Deacon Paul A. Kieffer, age 80, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, February 28, 2014 at his residence.
Paul was born on January 25, 1934 in Manitowoc to the late John and Lilah Reindl Kieffer. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1953. Paul served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956 and was stationed in Thule, Greenland. On June 8, 1957, Paul married Shirley M. Spatchek at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Paul had worked for Imperial Eastman Company for 35 years as a safety engineer. He then became employed at Tecumseh Products in New Holstein for 10 years until his retirement in 1998. On May 8.1978, Paul was ordained a Deacon by Bishop Wycislo and was assigned to Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Until recently, Paul was working as a field advocate for the Green Bay Diocese Tribunal, LoSEC, Facilitator for Protecting God’s Children, and Holy Family Memorial Hospice. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Lakeshore Diaconate Support Group, Homeless Committee, Manitowoc Eagles Club Aries 706, past member and president of the Manitowoc County Safety Committee, Northeast Wisconsin Safety Council, American Society of Safety Engineers, American Legion, board member of KAN Cool for School, Interagency Housing Association, Spiritual Director of SVDP District Council, Social Concerns Outreach Coordinator for St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Survivors include Paul’s wife of 56 years: Shirley; two children: Randy (Chris) Kieffer, Hershey, PA; and Debra (Jerry) Christel, St. Nazianz; four grandchildren: Nathan (Heather) Kieffer, Megan Kieffer and her fiancé Keith Luckow, Joseph (Carina) Christel, and John Christel; great grandson: Dean Hunter Kieffer; brother: Richard Kieffer, Manitowoc; two sisters: Mary Trulen, Dodgeville; and Bernedette Meisner, Luck; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: John and Reinhardt; and sister: Margaret Schleh.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Most Reverend David L. Ricken, Bishop of the Green Bay Diocese. Immediately following the funeral service, military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 659 outside the church. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be led by Rev. Dan Viertel at 8 p.m. to conclude the visitation.
