In 1950, Bergen already was an established singer when she starred with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in her first movie, 'At War With the Army' and would go on to appear in two more Martin and Lewis films, 'That's My Boy' (1951) and 'The Stooge' (1952). She received an Emmy award in 1957 for her portrayal of singer Helen Morgan in the episode 'The Helen Morgan Story' on the television series 'Playhouse 90'. During the 1957-58 season, she appeared in 18 episodes of 'The Polly Bergen Show' on CBS and was a regular panelist on the popular game show, 'To Tell the Truth'. Signed to Columbia Records, she enjoyed a successful recording career during this era, as well. In the 1960s, she appeared in the original 'Cape Fear' (1962), co-starred with Doris Day and James Garner in the comedy, 'Move Over, Darling' (1963) and played the first female President of the United States in the 1964 film, 'Kisses for My President'. Among other films she appeared in were 'A Guide for the Married Man' (1967), 'Velvet' (1984), 'Cry-Baby' (1990), 'Dr. Jekyll & Ms. Hyde' (1995) and 'Struck by Lightning' (2012). On television she was cast as a regular on 'The Winds of War', 'Hotel', 'War and Remembrance', 'Commander in Chief' and 'Desperate Housewives'. In 1965, she created the Polly Bergen Company where she developed a cosmetics line, designed lines of jewelry and shoes, and authored three books on beauty.
