Courtney Quintin (Hess) could sing almost every advertising jingle heard on television since she was born, September 21, 1966. It was natural that she should make a career in advertising, beginning with Western International Media and most recently with 21st Century Insurance.
Courtney, an avid sports fan and participant, played setter on the Claremont High School volleyball team in 1983 and was a contestant on a sports game show on ESPN. She was a world-traveler, having gone to India and Africa with her mother, Frances Hess, before she was ten.
Courtney was a student at the Polytechnic School in Pasadena, Claremont High, and North Carolina State University. She even taught classes in advertising with her father, Professor James Hess, at the University of Illinois.

Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2003 at the Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City, CA, BB section site L228. Courtney Hess Quintin, 37, a former media planning supervisor at Initiative and most recently the broadcast media manager at 21st Century Insurance, was found dead in her Burbank, Calif., home on Monday.
Quintin’s live-in boyfriend Ray Pascual, 38, is in jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. His bail has been set at $2 million. Quintin was discovered in the apartment the two shared on Monday with her legs and hands bound. Police are not confirming how Quintin was killed, but apparently she was shot to death. A pillow with a bullet hole through it was found near her body. Police recovered a gun from Pascual’s car and will test it to see if it was used in the slaying. Authorities said yesterday that there was a history of domestic abuse between the couple, who had been together for eight years and had been guardians to two of Quintin’s nieces. Pascual also had a history of deception. He apparently had posed as an undercover police officer to many who knew him, but in actuality he was a security guard. Police said there was some indication he’d hoped to become an officer.
Quintin was well known in the advertising industry for the years she spent at Initiative and more recently at the agency PWA, which handled accounts like Pax TV.
