Mr. Cox came to Gainesville from Arkansas about thirty days ago, and had resided in his room over the bank since that time. He has been in ill health for several months and his death was not wholly unexpected. However, he was visited by his son about 9 o'clock and at that time appeared to be suffering little from his illness. At, non, when the son took his dinner to his room, he found his father lying across his bed, with a pool of blood near his head.
Undertaker Gibson who examined his body soon after it was found, stated that the man had been dead only a short time, possibly an hour. The body was taken to the home of his son, Warren Cox, well known local barber, on South Grand Avenue, and the funeral will be held at the residence Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. E. A. Wesson officiating. S. W. Gibson has charge of funeral arrangements.
The funeral of Elijah Cox, age 74, who died suddenly in his room over the First National Bank Monday at noon, was held this morning at 10 o'clock at the home of his son, Warren Cox on South Grand Avenue.
Mr. Cox was born on March 21, 1848 in Indiana. He came to Gainesville about 30 days ago from Rogers, Arkansas where he has been residing the past eight years. He is survived only by his son and one grandson, Levis Cox. He was a primitive Baptist in his church affiliation.
