Businessman, Inventor. Samuel Duncan Black (known as S. Duncan Black) along with Alonzo G. Decker were co-founders of the Black and Decker tool manufacturing company. The pair were known for their development of the "pistol grip and trigger switch" for portable electric drills as well as the "universal" motor for portable electric tools. Prior to their invention of the portable drill, electric power tools were large wieldy pieces of equipment and people had to take their work to the drill. After their inventions, drills and other power tools became portable, laying the foundation for the modern power tool industry.
