FOWLE, Carolyn Joan (Gray) Died in her home on September 27, 2014 in Beaverton, OR due to complications of COPD. She was 84. Carolyn was born on November 13, 1929 in Bakersfield, CA to her parents, William and Blanche Gray. She graduated from the St. Rose Academy and attended San Francisco City College in San Francisco. She married Frederick E. Fowle Jr in 1954. The Fowles moved to San Mateo and eventually to Santa Rosa where Fred worked in the electrical distribution business and Carolyn raised their seven children. After her children were in school, Carolyn became a personal banker working for Franklin Savings and Coast Savings. She retired from banking in 1992. That was when she and Fred relocated to Salem, OR. Carolyn was active in her local church, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, as an Eucharistic Minister. Carolyn was an avid bridge player. She loved a good scrabble game and a challenging jigsaw puzzle. She loved to sew and knit and her family reaped the benefits. She was a fabulous cook and loved to try new recipes. She enjoyed telling stories about her youth and her children. She was very proud of each of her children and all their accomplishments. Carolyn is survived by her sons, Fred and Kevin (Shannon); daughters, Mary Ellen (Marshall), Monica (Bob), Maureen (Samuel), and daughter-in-law Peggy McCoy; brothers, Robert Gray (LaVerne) and Kenneth Gray (Theodora); sister, Mary Shepherd (Bill) and sister-in-law, Marianne Mack; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Frederick, two of her sons, Christian and Matthew, and her brother, William Gray, preceded her in death. We would like to thank the staff of Hearthstone of Beaverton for the kind and gentle care during Carolyn's final days. Your compassion and loving care toward our mother will never be forgotten. Carolyn Fowle was buried in a private ceremony on October 2, 2014 at Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of Carolyn's life will take place on November 13th St Emydius Catholic Church in San Francisco. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carolyn's life. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Salem, OR, or Gentiva Hospice in Beaverton, OR.
