S. Rosina Ann Schock OSB, age 72, died in the Sacred Heart Monastery Care Center on Thursday, October 2, 2014.
A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m., both in Bishop Marty Memorial Chapel in Yankton. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Monastery Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.
Rosina Anne Schock was born November 5, 1941 at Osmond, Nebraska, home of her parents Albert and Othilia (Hofmaier) Schock, the first of eight children. She attended country school at Pleasant Valley and Constance. She graduated from Mount Marty High School, Yankton, South Dakota in 1958 and received a degree in elementary education from Mount Marty College, Yankton, South Dakota in 1970. Rosina Anne entered Sacred Heart Monastery on August 26, 1955 and became a novice on June 28, 1958. She made first profession on June 29, 1959 and final profession on June 29, 1964.
S. Rosina Ann taught primary grades at Catholic schools in Sioux Falls and Vermillion, South Dakota; Pueblo, Colorado; York, St. Paul, and Lincoln, Nebraska. Besides teaching and being the principal in St. Paul, Nebraska, she also coordinated the parish religious education program. After recovering from an illness, she was asked to attend to the spiritual needs of the sisters in St. Joseph Care Center at Sacred Heart Monastery, a pastoral ministry position which she held for twenty years.
S. Rosina Ann had a love for the good earth and as a child was often outside with her father on the farm. She later enjoyed walking and gardening. She was a quiet woman who liked to browse libraries and listen to music. She was also known for making and sharing her gooseberry pie.
S. Rosina Ann is survived by her Benedictine community, her seven siblings, Betty Kleinschmit of Hartington, NE, Irvin Schock of Dakota City, NE, Evelyn Arnberger of Abilene, KS, S. Celine Schock OSB of Norfolk, NE, Margaret Spittler of San Diego, CA, Roman Schock of Norfolk, NE, and Norma Reed of Norfolk, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
