TIFTON -- George Marsh Jones, 98, of Tifton, formerly of Shirley, Ind., and Ellenton, Fla., died Sunday, August 2, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Tifton with the Rev. Carrie Mook Bridgman officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Todd Livingston, Chad Livingston, Jerry Glisson, Kerry Glisson, Johnny Abee and Jonas Garcia will serve as pallbearers. Frank Ketring will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Born July 25, 1911 in Frankton, Ind., to George Washington Jones and Mantie Lee Campbell Jones, both deceased, Mr. Jones was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Bates Jones. Mr. Jones had lived in Tifton nine years. In high school he played basketball and later attended Ball State University. Mr. Jones worked as a finish roller with Ingersol Steel Co. and later as a grain elevator salesman with Wilkinson Feed and Grain Co. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, and Chicago Cubs baseball. Mr. Jones bowled in a traveling bowling league and loved playing bingo with his friends at the VFW and the American Legion. Mr. Jones is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sandy Jones of Tifton; his grandchildren, Chad and Christie Livingston of Tifton and Todd and Tracey Livingston of Trinity, Fla.; his great-grandchildren, Ryan Livingston and Shane Livingston of Trinity, Fla., and Chandler Livingston of Tifton; a niece whom he adored, Rebecca Long, of Evansville, Ind.; and several other nieces and nephews. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of Tift Area, P. O. Box 747, Tifton, GA 31793, or Tribute Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
