Rupert served as a First Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-17 #42-29491, 509th Bomber Squadron, 351st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Oxford County, Maine prior to the war.

B-17 #42-29491 took off from Polebrook, England on a practice flight. They collided in mid-air with B-17 #42-29865 and both crashed near Polebrook. The entire crew of " both " B-17's were lost in this crash.

Rupert died in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash during the war.

Service # O-661679

S/SGT Charles E. Chadbourne of Cumberland County, Maine was also killed on this same flight.
