Helen T. "Lenny" Barnaby (nee Sebahar) 94 of Whiting, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Community Hospital, Munster.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward H. "Captain" Barnaby who passed away in 1992; loving mother of Adrienne Barnaby of Chicago, Cindy (Chuck) Barnaby-Kreisl of Hammond and the late Edward Lee Barnaby; cherished grandmother of Anna (Cole Biltgen) Kreisl, Samantha Kreisl, Cody Kreisl and Alexandra Brown; special nieces, Sr. Sharon Frederick and Diane Primozic and proud aunt to many dear nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2014, 9:30 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting; a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting, with. the Rev. William O'Donnell, C.PP.S., officiating; interment, St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL; visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The St. John Rosary Society, together with members of the parish will offer prayers at the funeral home on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
Lenny Barnaby was born on August 24, 1920 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Mary Sebahar. The youngest of the Sebahar siblings, she was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters.
She was a graduate of Bowen High School, Chicago, Class of 1938 and was a resident of Whiting for over 60 years. Lenny was a very devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting. She had attended daily Mass for many years, was a member of the St. John Rosary Society and had volunteered in the sacristy cleaning church linens. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Lenny was an avid sports fan, cheering for her Chicago Cubs. She participated at the Hammond Civic Center and was a Gold Medal recipient from the Senior Olympics in swimming.
Lenny and her late husband Ed, were the owners and operators of Calumet Marine Towing, Chicago, for many years.
Devoted to her family, she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
