Blanche Black died August 26, 1996, in Tuscumbia. She was 89. Daughter of Harvey Young Johnson and Mary Lucinda Foster Johnson, Blanche Black was born in Nettleton, Mississippi, on October 4, 1906. She was graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1929. She married Rutherford Ray Black, now deceased, in 1934. Blanche Black taught at Sheffield High School and later at The Brooke Hill School in Birmingham until 1974, when she retired after an academic career of nearly forty years. She is survived by her daughter, her son, her sister, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family asks that any memorial gifts be made to the Sheffield Public Library or the Tennessee Valley Art Association.
