Los Angeles Rites for Mrs. Geo. Steil
Funeral services for Mrs. George Steil, 78, whose death was reported last week, were held in Los Angeles, Calif., June 19, with interment in Calvary Cemetery near the grave of her son Raymond. Mrs. Steil had been ill at the home of a daughter, Mrs. F.O. Glanz, in Maywood, Calif., for several weeks. Death, caused by uremic poisoning, occurred June 17.
The former Mary McBride, Mrs. Steil was born in Boston, Mass., coming to Iowa with her parents when she was four. Her marriage to George Steil occurred here in 1886. In 1898 he died, leaving his widow with seven young children, two sons, Raymond and Elmer preceding their mother in death.
A devoted and conscientious mother, Mrs. Steil assumed the responsibility of raising her children carefully and well, and they in turn, when they established their own homes, cherished her and were considerate of her comfort and welfare. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. P.L. Godden, here for many years, usually going to California to spend the winter with Mrs. Glanz. Mrs. Steil will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include, in addition to those mentioned above, Mrs. Earl Frink and Mrs. Elder of Los Angeles, and Mrs. A.J. Gappa of Emmetsburg. Three sisters, Miss Julia McBride, Mrs. Anna Goddard, both of Emmetsburg, and Mrs. Ella Goddard of Streator, Ill., also mourn her death as do 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
