Sammie Gene Cross, 73, of Eureka, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at Yates Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on September 24, 1934, Severy, Kansas, the son of Rufus and Jesse Fern (Wellman) Cross. He was raised in the Severy area and graduated from Climax High School. After graduation, he work in Coffeyville at the National Guard. He returned home to take care of the family farm in 1962. In 1969, he began operating Sam's Place and he later operated Sam's Supper Club from 1973 to 1983. He always farmed and ranched in the Eureka area, until he was no longer able.
On August 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Donna Hebb in Fall River. He is survived by Donna, of the home; one son, Jim Cross of Eureka; Six daughters, Rose Brown of Erie, Susan Baughn of Wichita, Luara Kurtz of Hutchinson, Joyce Cross of Fall River, Deb Garison of Dexter and Gina Randolph of Tulsa, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Masterson of Surprise, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
He was a member of the Climax Methodist Church and Climax Masonic Lodge No. 411.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 31 in Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
