Mary Mitchell Simmons, 65, passed away November 3, 2014 at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be 5:30pm-8:30pm Wednesday at Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst. Services will be 2pm Thursday at Stringer Family Chapel with burial at Antioch Cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Home in Hazlehurst is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was a loan officer of USDA Federal Credit Union and a former teacher at Headstart. When she was growing up she loved swimming and was a lifeguard. Mrs. Simmons was a loving mom and grannie.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Mitchell and special friends, Jock Grantham and Paul Edwards.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Simmons; son, Joseph “Simeon” Mitchell of Tennessee; daughters, Heather C. Grippando (Tony) of Pearl, Michell Carpenter (Josh) of Bossier City, LA and Angie Miles (Mike) of Brandon; brother, John Mitchell of Louisville; sister, Shirley Givens of Crystal Springs; grandchildren, Garrett Parker, Christopher Carpenter and Ashley Miles.
