Col. Robley D. Smith, Sr., died suddenly of heart failure, Tuesday night, July 19th. He was buried at Culloden Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the funeral services being conducted by Pastor Allen, of the Methodist church.
Col. Smith was sixty years of age, and had been a member of the Methodist church since early manhood. He was always very prominent in politics, and had held many positions of honor and trust.
He served Crawford county for a long time as clerk of superior court, also in the state legislature and his district in the senate. He was a presidential elector from Georgia and cast his vote for Cleveland. Of recent years, failing health had forced him to retire from active work.
Col. Smith is survived by six children: Dr. Wm. T; Col. R. D. and Howard Smith, of Tifton, Northrop, of Macon; Mrs. B. S. Wright of Roberta, and Mrs. F. L. Gilbert, of Hampton.
The friends of the family in Tifton sympathize with them in their loss.
