The 61st U.S.C.I. was organized in March 1864 and served as the garrison of Memphis, TN. They took part in Gen. Smith's expedition to Tupelo, MS., then defended Memphis from Gen. Forest repeated attacks. Following the end of the war the regiment was transferred to Barancas, FL. and Fort Blakely, AL. The regiment was mustered out on Dec 30, 1865.
Henry's name appears on Plaque C-72 on the National African American Civil War Monument in Washington, DC.
When Henry died on May 30, 1905 he was described as a 74 year old black married carpenter born in Kentucky. He was buried at Oakwoods Cemetery on June 2, 1905.
