The boy, Michael Cornwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cornwell of Rounte 1, Dumfries, was injured when he ran down an embankment and in front of a car driven by John Michael Jogoda, 49, of Triangle, Va., police said.
Jagoda immediately put on his brakes but was unable to stop before hitting the boy, police said. The driver was not charged. The Dumfries Rescue Squad took the boy to Fairfax Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition with a fractured skull.
