Pvt Rollins was shipped to Ireland with the entire regiment on 28 December 1943. After three months of field exercises in Portstewart the regiment moved to Nottingham, England. They continued training, including practice jumps at night in preparation for D-Day.
On 6 June 1944 Pvt Rollins jumped into Normandy, France as part of the invasion force and was killed in action the following day.
He was initially interred in the Blosville Cemetery, Plot A, Row 9, Grave 170.
His remains were repatriated and laid to rest in the Shinnston Cemetery on 2 May 1948.
