Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1948 to 1955), he played at the linebacker, middle-guard and center positions in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams. His studies at UCLA were interrupted while he served with the United States Navy during World War II and upon his return home, he resumed playing collegiate football. He was a member of the Bruins' squad which captured the Rose Bowl title on January 1, 1947. Selected by the Rams during the 3rd round of the 1947 NFL Draft, he played in 87 career regular season games. Paul experienced a world championship, when Los Angeles captured the NFL Title in 1951. Individually, he earned Pro-Bowl honors three consecutive times (1951 to 1953) and received First-Team All-Pro status in 1953. After retiring as a player, he served as a defensive coach with the Los Angeles Rams and was later paired with Gil Stratton as an analyst for Rams' TV broadcasts. He was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986. He died of complications from respiratory failure.
